                      Andrea Pastorella / Artistic director

Began dancing at the age of five, and has performed across the United States and in Canada. She was raised in the US and in Sweden. After completing 3 years in the Dance/Theatre department at San Francisco State University Ms. Pastorella took a workshop with Ryzcard Cieslak (Grotowskis Polish Theatre Laboratory) and it was during these 3 weeks that she realised "the body never lies"! She went on
 to study ballet in Boston on a scholarship with Marie Paquet who later sent her to New York where she recieved a scholarship with the Mary Anthony Dance Theatre and was professionally trained by Mary Anthony, Anna Sokolow and Bertram Ross among others. 



Pastorella is the founder of Movita Dance Theatre and is committed to dance as communication and self expression. Through the choreography, the classes and performances Movita brings forth the wonderful and profound experience of being human. 

With a cast of modern dancers ages 8 and up Movita reveals with energy, humor and compassion  
relationships between all people; young and adults, teens and adults, men and women. 

Andrea was awarded the choreographers fellowship in Boston at Summer Stages Dance, her work was featured in the REAL to REEL program at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City and she has been commissioned to choreograph for The Catskill Ballet Theatre.

 Andrea Pastorella has made over 25 dances from solo to group and received funding from several arts foundations among which are Dutchess County Arts  Council administrator for NYSCA,The Puffin Foundation, Stewarts, Woodstock Chimes Foundation and corporate sponsors Key Bank and Citi Bank.  In Ireland; The Firkin Crane, Cork city council and Dance Ireland.

Ms. Pastorella has performed with Sieko Ichinoche (NYC),  co-founded and performed with In Forward Motion (NY); and is a former member of Batucaje' Brazilian Music and Dance Ensemble (CA), Solaris Dance Theatre (NYC) and Mary Anthony Dance Theatre (NYC).
 Andrea has collaborated in multimedia performances with US artists Julie Hedrick, Doug Trump, Guy Nouri,  Liane Tori and Molly Ackerman and with composers Stephen Johnson

In Ireland Pastorella was awarded a choreographers "new works stipend" to collaborate with lighting designer Tim Feheely and  composer Stephen Johnson.
